It is finally here....Super Bowl Sunday! Patriots vs Giants. The teams didn't make for a very colorful platter, but at least there were footballs to break up the red and blues.

Another Cookier who I am sure you are all familiar with, Arty McGoo, invited her husband to commentate over several styles of Super Bowl cookies made by other designers. The post is fun, as all her posts are, and you should subscribe to her blog if you haven't already! Her talent is so amazing as she "paints" on cookies, I am rethinking my choice of "Painted Cookie" for me, she is an artist that will amaze you for sure.

The "Once Upon A Time" Project

This month I had the privilege of joining Anne Yorks from Flour Box Bakery who organized "Once Upon A Time" decorating project that included 22 cookie designers. Each designer was assigned a character to create a collection around their given character. Once Upon A Time "Dorothy"

My character was Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. My first thought was that I had an easy character, but then realized with Dorothy you also have a dog, tin-man, scarecrow and lion too! Toto was easy, and for the 3 sidekicks I used a teddy bear cutter using Silver luster dust to paint the tin man. For Dorothy I decided to use a "hanging baby" but gave her the braids and shoes that she was known to wear with the blue gingham from her dress on the wrap. The other elements I wanted to include were the "Yellow Brick Road", red shoes and poppies. The yellow brick "blanket" was a towel cutter and the shoes were an oval cutter. Red disco dust was perfect for the shoes and accent frame. Still not a fan because of the mess, but it did make them sparkle!

My characters were fun to create but I strongly encourage you to visit the other designers listed above to view their interpretations of their "baby" characters. You will be AMAZED at the elements they were able to include in their designs. And a BIG Thank You to Anne Yorks who pulled us all together on this project...TOO MUCH FUN!!!

I received my first Quinceanera order. This is a celebration for a Spanish girl's 15th birthday. I have had this cutter from Coppergifts for years and hadn't used it yet, but this was the perfect occasion! The birthday girl selected her school colors of white, Navy & Cornflower blue with a request of "not too frilly" of a design. We are happy to say Sophie was very pleased with her cookie design!

My last new Thanksgiving design for 2011 is using Coppergifts.com's Plaque cutter. I took a mini turkey cutter and made an impression before baking. I outlined in Chocolate Brown and did the same for the turkey and filled in. While wet I added the red and gold accents. Once dried, flooded with ivory which made a nice background for personalizing.

A pirate theme for young Austin turning 5. I thought I would try outlining in black first (I usually outline after the cookie is iced). I learned that the icing used for flooding needs to be a little thicker than the base I usually use, as I did notice some bleeding, but not too much. I think it work out well for this design.

I had done this design last year when someone contacted me saying my picture came up in a Google search. This is a great design for those parents-to-be who are waiting for their arrival to see if they have a boy or a girl. On this design, I always let my white base dry for 2 days before adding the chocolate brown which is little thicker than my base consistency. I just add a little more sugar to absorb some moisture to prevent bleeding. I did the same with the pastels so they wouldn't absorb any brown while drying.

Ambler Farm Day 2011

Our family is a big supporter of Ambler Farm our local town farm. Both of my boys are apprentices there. Ambler Day is their big annual fundraiser with fun for all ages. Here is my oldest Sam who is a mentor Apprentice this year riding around the morning before the festivities started:

Benjamin my youngest is enjoying his first season working on the farm. He was in charge of helping with the Apple Sling Shot a big favorite activity every year:

And then there is my honey doing tractor rides throughout the day. He had fun, but the exhaust trailing into the cab really got to him by the end of the day. But a good time was had by all:

And finally the cookies I designed for the bake sale were 2 new designs this year. First of all I decided to make a chocolate dough. While I love the taste, I use Ghiradhelli Cocoa (Yum) it is not as easy to roll as my usual sugar dough. First was a leaf cookie. Believe it or not I have never done a feathered border before. I am happy with the results and will definitely be using this design again:

I wanted to do a Halloween design for the kids and I had this large 6-inch ghost that I thought would be fast and easy. But just doing eyes and a mouth looked too boring so I played around with the words "Ambler Farm" to see how I could make it fun and this spider seemed perfect!

So a good time was had by all, and the fundraiser was a BIG success!

I love this scalloped rectangle cutter, I have used it for a backdrop for so many designs. My latest is "The Snake"....something about young boys and snakes! Hunter was having his party at a local nature center and requested a brown snake on his cookie. With all the humid, rainy weather we have been having in the Northeast, I decided to let the white base dry for 2 days and it worked wonderfully to prevent any bleeding from the brown and the green border.

This is my first time doing zebra stripes believe it or not! I don't know if it is because I am a Libra and I have a hard time becoming "unbalanced" with random designs LOL!. I started going across horizontally, but couldn't find "my groove"? So I finally went vertical and the stripes seem to fall in place. A firetruck favor for Andrew's 4th birthday party scheduled for Sunday August 29th. We all knew our area was a target for Hurricane Irene, but tried to keep good thoughts for Andrew. A request for peach flowers and "Tiffany Blue" for this wedding cake favor. The peach flowers for the cake were suppose to be variegated, but the extreme heat and humidity that plagued the east coast last week was a problem. Drying took much longer and the darker color peach seemed to soak into the lighter color peach. Note to self, no variegated flowers in July and August!

I never seem to have time in between orders to do "Thank You" cookies for people in our life. This weekend was Benjamin's SummerStage performance of "Jungle Book". Well I has some scalloped rectangles left from my "Baby Feet" order (below) outlined in mint green. I tried to mimic the font on the book and then added another outline in a darker green and added some jungle leaves. Some paw prints on scalloped rounds and we were good to go!

I often use my flip flop cutters for golf greens. The favors were from a large one and the platter a smaller one. Sometimes simple is better.....for this platter the request was for double hearts, diamond rings and wedding cakes. The beaded border around the double hearts was perfect to outline their names. Unfortunately the weather in the Northeast was torrential and humidity was a major factor with delaying drying that I wasn't able to paint the luster dust as previously planned. So I just dusted the silver with Nu Silver and the gem with pearl luster dusts.

I found a picture online and printed it out. I then used it to build the cutter around the outline. It does come with some adhesive tape to use on the overlap to close the cutter. What do you think?

Owl Themed Baby Shower Favor

Inspiration for this design was from a piece of stationary. To prevent bleeding into the white, I let the base coat dry for 2 days. I outlined the owl and branch with icing that was a little thicker than the fill, which also helped prevent bleeding. Nail Salon Party Favor

You all know that I love to get my "girl" on being the mother of 2 boys and was very excited to do this favor for a Nail Salon birthday party. I love this scallop cutter from CopperGifts.com and I use it a lot. This time I used a nail polish cutter to make an imprint on the dough before baking to use as an outline for this design. Outlined and iced my bright white icing and let it dry overnight. Filled in the Americolor Electric Pink and then the Electric Green top and outlining for finishing touches and they were good to go!

I am fortunate to have an accountant that also supports my business! She wanted 1040 forms for her office to celebrate the end of taxes. These cookies required a lot of writing and again I can not say enough about PME tips...they are really like writing with a pen. You can glide along with your writing as if you were using a marker. I rarely use food markers for writing as I prefer the look of the icing and the PME tips make it so much easier.!

I found that Global Sugar Art has the largest selection of sizes and styles of PME Tips. I am looking to start replacing some of my Wilton star tips next. Karen's Cookies and Coppergifts also offer the PME tips best for writing and outlining.

Spring's Sip Shop & Share Event

Spring is always a great time to do some fairs. After a long, hard winter, I think most are ready for the colors of spring. I did quite well with my boxes of Peeps Bunnies and my Chick-In-Egg were a very popular favor this year.

This seems to be the weekend for fundraisers in town. One is our church's auction where I sponsored a table this year. Some kind soul is decorating a paper mache house for The Painted Cookie. I made a small scalloped cookie to go over the door of this house and thought it would also be a nice table favor. I also included a couple of each with gift certificates that I donated. Best of all I got to use my new dish from Home Goods for the photo!

Dance Recital Favors

I was given two pictures to create favors for a dance recital. The red disco dust was just enough "pizazz" to dress up the black & white dot costume. And for the pink top costume's skirt I dragged dark gray with black and then added a couple of spot of white to drag last. On the favors I did paint silver swirls with luster dust, to match the costume, but it didn't photograph well, so this one does not have the metallic swirls.
